Some lacrosse players seem to rise above the rest and earn reputations for fierce and exceptional play. Today, Haudenosaunee men continue the tradition of lacrosse and play at the highest levels of the sport. There is a direct relationship between modern lacrosse played by Native men and the warrior traditions. The game is used in the same way in that exceptional players earn status and respect, like the old warriors did through their achievements in battle.
